Tee It Up                             Weather Forecast

With new HRMD ownership, the public is now invited to use the Heather Ridge trails during non golfing times to snow shoe, cross country ski, walk, etc. It is important this activity is limited only on the trails and only during non golf times. For your safety and other reasons, if you are using the trail and spot golfers, or are asked by golfer(s) or golf employees you must exit the trails.

Goose Quandary

UAHR August 2008

Geese have become a problem on the HR Golf Course and the UAHR open space.

Note: There is a delicate balance between protecting wild life and taking constructive humane actions when wildlife becomes a nuisance and detriment to recreation areas.  Here are some links to get up to date on the goose problem others have had and we now face:

Grappling with Geese – Jenna Baker– Aurora, CO 12/2008 PDF

We at UAHR have asked the new management team Cordes and Company how we can help with anything they need.  Monday 8/11/2008 a group of volunteers were at the golf pro shop and on the grounds cleaning and getting the facilities in “ship shape”.

We have been asked by the ground’s superintendent, Bob Knutson, to begin a “Let’s Send the Geese Away Program”.  The golf course has been distressed because of the lack of rain and the geese are a problem, because each goose eats 3 pounds of grass a day.  The humane plan is to keep the geese in the water for 2 to 3 days from dawn to dusk.  Eventually they will get so hungry they will leave Heather Ridge and fly elsewhere.  Management has offered 4 golf carts for this undertaking and we still need volunteers on Tuesday 8/19 and Wednesday 8/20 to man the front 9 (north of Iliff) in 4 hour shifts.  If you want to help, call Edie Reidel 303-755-2740 or Judy Weber 303-369-9411 and they will put you on the schedule.  Bob Knutson said, ”The back 9, south of Iliff does not have the goose problem at this time”.
